29 0ctober 1923 - The Republic day of TURKEY

The Republic Day of Turkey is one of the public holidays in Turkey, commemorating the proclamation of the republic in 1923. It lasts 35 hours, starting at 1:00 pm on October 28.
On 29 October 1923, Mustafa Kemal declared that Turkey would be a republic and renamed it as the Republic of Turkey.
Turkey had effectively been a republic from April 23, 1920 (the establishment of Grand National Assembly of Turkey) but official recognition of this came only 3 years later. On 29 October 1923, the new name of the nation and its status as a republic was declared. After that, a vote occurred in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and Atatürk was selected as the 1st president of the Republic of Turkey by unanimous vote.
Since then, every year on October 29 is celebrated as Republic Day in Turkey.

Sacrifice Feast in Turkey

The Sacrifice Feast in Turkey is a four-day religious festival. ( This year : 15-16-17-18 October) The Sacrifice Feast traditions in Turkey include sacrificing an animal ( ram or cow ) in a special ritual, delivering the meat to the neighbours or the poor, visiting relatives and helping the poor.
The Sacrifice Feast is one of the two Islamic holidays ( the other is Ramadan ) in Turkey. It commemorates the story about Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) who showed obedience to God by agreeing to sacrifice his son. God then sent him a ram to be sacrificed instead. The Sacrifice Feast comes about 70 days after the Ramadan Feast.
The Sacrifice Feast takes place in the four days following the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijja.
The Sacrifice Feast is an official four-day holiday in Turkey. Administration buildings, schools, banks and post offices are usually closed during this period. Supermarkets remain open, but may work on a special holiday schedule.

Also known as Stoianu
Your mum looked out for you
Through the light and airy wood
But, alas, she never found you
Ita Colita,
Also knonn as Stoita,
Your mum looked out for you
Through the light and airy wood
But to soothe her heart
She never could.

Pour down lots of water,
Water from the jug,
For the girl to grow,
Water from the mug
For the boy to grow,
Bring along the rain
